Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Party

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 are included.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The third episode concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of characters who will branch out from the central cast to begin their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor (played by the voice actor), Thimble (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

With 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.

That’s why, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

According to the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for participants who prefer a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven story mode where non-violent answers are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might appear mismatched, but the events of episode 3 show why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

First, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a intense initial meeting with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and stealing all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

Casimir then settled his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each member has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, seeks revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the region and advises that it is a nasty place.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having disobeyed his house’s orders to execute the target and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • However, their position as prominent individuals in the influential clan could assist the group enter locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now accompany him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the powers that govern the setting for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The cleric defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the clan.

This means them few options but to head to Timmony in quest for Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

From episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table will be absent next week, leaving the remaining eight players to form the Seekers and Strategists groups.

Audiences can expect finding out which players will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on next week.
